Materials & Testing

Every material, every stitch, every snap is pushed to extremes before it ever reaches your companion. We don't just claim durability — we prove it.

Where precision meets the trail

At Trailer, we source technical fabrics, aerospace-grade alloys, and polymer composites typically reserved for human outdoor gear — then subject them to a battery of tests that simulate years of abuse in weeks. Our Bend, Oregon lab operates under strict protocols derived from ASTM and ISO methodologies, ensuring every component performs in rain, snow, desert heat, and rocky alpine terrain.

Founded in 2026, we inherited decades of pet product expertise and built a brand from the ground up with one mission: refuse compromise. This page details the science behind every leash clip, harness buckle, and waterproof membrane in our lineup.

Six dimensions of relentless validation

Every product must survive all six gateways before earning the Trailer badge.

Tensile & Load Testing

Leashes, collars, and buckles are pulled to failure on a calibrated Instron machine. We test at both static and dynamic loads exceeding 450 kg for large-breed hardware. Every batch is sampled.

450kg Static ASTM D6775

Environmental Stress Resistance

Components undergo accelerated weathering in UV chambers and salt fog cabinets per ASTM G154. We simulate 5 years of sun exposure and coastal corrosion in under 1000 hours.

1000h UV Salt Fog 96h

Abrasion & Puncture Resistance

Martindale and Taber tests measure fabric wear against rough surfaces. Our ballistic nylon passes 50,000+ rub cycles without structural failure, resisting tears from thorns and sharp rocks.

50k Rubs ISO 12947

Waterproof Integrity Testing

Hydrostatic head tests pressurize fabric until leakage occurs. Our rain covers and membranes withstand 15,000mm+ water columns, paired with taped seams verified under dynamic conditions.

15k mm H₂O AATCC 127

Chemical & Stain Resistance

We expose materials to common trail chemicals: DEET, sunscreen, mud, and pet saliva enzymes. Surfaces are evaluated for discoloration and degradation over 72-hour immersion.

Real-World Field Simulation

Prototypes are fitted to active dogs across varied terrains in Central Oregon. GPS tracking and load sensors record data over 150+ trail miles before final approval.

Material Philosophy

Engineered polymers, honest textiles

We select only Bluesign® approved or OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics wherever possible. Our proprietary TrailerWeave™ nylon is a 1000D high-tenacity yarn with a unique diamond ripstop pattern that stops tears before they spread. Combined with YKK® locking zippers and ITW Nexus® acetal buckles, the hardware ecosystem is designed for zero failure in the field.

From Prototype to Production

Our quality lifecycle

1

Material Sourcing Audit

Supplier mills are evaluated for consistency and ethical compliance. Incoming raw rolls are batch-tested for denier, weight, and colorfastness.

2

Component Bench Trials

Zippers, snaps, and D-rings are cycled on automated rigs while submerged in water, mud, and ice to simulate worst-case scenarios.

3

Whole Product Stress Test

Assembled products are placed in an environmental chamber cycling from -20°F to 120°F with 90% humidity, then immediately load-tested.

4

Canine Field Validation

Selected ambassadors and local trainers use prototypes for 4–6 weeks, providing structured feedback logged into our quality portal.

5

Final Inspection & Certification

Every production lot undergoes AQL sampling before release. Certificates of conformance are archived and traceable to your order.

Frequently asked questions

Are your materials safe for pets with allergies?

+

Absolutely. All fabrics are certified free from heavy metals, phthalates, and formaldehyde. We adhere to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I (articles for babies) criteria as a benchmark for pet safety. Our coatings are water-based and hypoallergenic.

How do you test for extreme cold weather performance?

+

We use a thermal chamber capable of reaching -40°F. Buckles and fabrics are conditioned for 24 hours, then immediately subjected to impact and tensile tests. This ensures no brittle fracture or cracking occurs in sub-zero alpine environments.

What is your warranty policy based on these tests?

+

Our confidence in testing allows us to offer a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. If any hardware or stitching fails under normal use as defined by our testing protocols, we replace the item. See warranty page for details.

Can I visit the Bend, OR testing facility?

+

We offer limited studio tours by appointment for industry partners and media. Please contact support@trailver.com to inquire. Our address is 2843 NW Lolo Dr, Bend, OR 97703, United States.
